Some of the speakers have been so fantastic, while others have been less than ordinary. I guess it's fair to say that not everyone is a public speaker, and I'm sure as a designer your hardly expected to be a fantastic public speaker. However it does make it really hard to take in and enjoy their work and speech.
I think the standouts so far have been Stephan who was an amazing public speaker and he was halirous and true. 'I hate this question "what is design?". It is just such a crap question.' I loved the way he linked design to happiness and the things that make him happy, which most of it related to design. He has done this amazing work where he took a phrase eg. everybody thinks they are right and creatively strunng a word or two from this phrase around. I can't begin to explain it but everyone should go and check it out.
The other amazing guy was this french guy, I can't even remember his exotic name but I wrote it down somewhere. He is a freaking genious webpage designer. He had all this creative and interesting web page designs he had done, like one where you had to breathe on the page to make the catalouge appear. The best part of his talk was about one of his current projects, which is still heavily under development but he showed us an example of what they had done so far. It's an Adventure Book, one of those books where you choose your destiny or whatever, however it's far more interactive than that. There's all these sensors and stuff within in the book. For example for the next part of the text to be revealed you have to blow into a breatherliser and the book will only let you move on if your drunk. I could say so much more about it and everything he did but it's hard to explain how amazing it was.
The other HUGE standout for me was Andrea Innocent. I think I'm in love with her work. At first I was really unexcited about it, it was the 8th speaker that morning and I was feeling hungry and irritable. However she started to share a story with us. A story about a girl in Japan who was poisoning her mother and so on. After she finished this story she revealed a piece of her work 'Rat Girl' which was linked to this story. So all her work is based around a story she'd heard. Her work is really japanese styled, which its even moer awesome because I'm a huge fan of Japanese art. This totally made me consider maybe getting into illustrating if Fashion Design doesn't work out. I guess we will see.
